Context
As one of Europe's leading financial services groups with over 150 years of expertise, Société Générale supports 29 million customers on a daily basis through its 138,000 employees in 62 countries around the world.
The Société Générale Group has three complementary business lines: retail banking in France, international retail banking, insurance and financial services, and corporate and investment banking.
Challenges
Faced with increasingly large volumes of data and the emergence of new competitors in a totally disrupted banking sector, Société Générale's finance department asked its solutions centre to respond to a critical challenge: to have a central, integrated data solution for central departments capable of providing a 360° view of cost management.
By calling on Micropole, Société Générale wanted to be able to centralise granular financial and non-financial information within the same interface, thus gaining greater depth of analysis and responding to the Group's operational and strategic questions.
Methods and Solutions
The first stage of the project was to identify the "golden sources" and the repositories to facilitate the traceability of the application. The idea was then to cleanse all these data to start again from the real golden source. This time-consuming process was made possible by the agile method, which saved precious time through fortnightly delivery sequences .
The second stage of the project was to enable the teams to envision new perspectives in artificial intelligence due to the rapid distribution of dashboards and the implementation of KPIs via machine learning algorithms, these last capable of identifying trends from their CRM, i.e. the monthly and quarterly results of the group.
To carry out this project, Société Générale relied on two technologies with the advice of Micropole: Microsoft Azure to transfer the BI part to the cloud in order to accelerate time to market, promote pay-as- you- go and benefit from scalability adapted to real needs. All this was integrated with Talend's tools.
The solution allows financial and non-financial data to be cross-referenced to produce specific KPIs such as the costs of internal IT departments, costs related to the real estate sector, etc.," explains Ludovic Moullé, IS domain manager at the Société Générale Global Solution Centre. In addition, it also promotes the rationalisation of IT applications at the IT department level."

We have thus obtained finer visualisation and better control of our data thanks to a monitoring system that makes it possible to identify the transformation processes. From now on, the IT department is able to provide the finance department with qualified and quality data every morning at 8:30 a.m.
