From a strategic approach to Data to a cultural transformation
In a world where data has become the lifeblood of performance, companies face a major challenge: moving from a technological approach to data to a genuine cultural transformation.
To address this issue, Micropole and OpinionWay launched the Data Culture in Business survey, interviewing two complementary populations: executives, who are the guarantors of strategic vision, and employees, who are involved in operational implementation. This dual approach highlights the convergences and divergences in the perception and use of data, as well as the challenges to be met in order to collectively commit the company to this cultural transformation.
We set out to understand how companies can overcome technological, organizational and human obstacles to create an effective and sustainable use of data.
Discover the current state of practices and aspirations around data, while identifying the strategic axes to turn it into a lever for value creation.

3. Governance struggling to take root
of managers have set up a committee to manage data issues, and a third of employees are unable to decide whether to set up a dedicated committee.

When a committee has been set up, its members come from a wide range of backgrounds, although IT security and CEO are still in the majority.
Conversely, when a committee has not been defined, we find a smaller variety of profiles.
These divergences highlight the need to rethink engagement mechanisms by placing employees at the heart of transformation initiatives.
What the study teaches us
This survey underlines the fact that a data culture can only take root over the long term if managers and employees are pulling in the same direction. Three strategic axes stand out:
- Strengthen internal communication to better align vision and practices.
- Invest in training and tools to promote data appropriation at all levels.
- Establish participative governance to ensure trust and efficiency in data use.
