How Volkswagen France redefined its data strategy using the AWS MAP program
Present in over 150 countries worldwide, Volkswagen is a major player in the automotive industry. It offers a wide range of models from passenger cars to commercial vehicles, with a strong presence in the electric and hybrid car sector.
Our approach
Micropole's AWS Center of Excellence helped Volkswagen redefine its data management strategy and deploy a new architecture. Leveraging the AWS data platform, Micropole enabled the company to rethink and optimize its data architecture to meet current challenges, particularly in terms of agility, security and scalability.
The project was supported by the AWS MAP (Migration Acceleration Program), offering comprehensive support to assess the company's specific needs, design a tailor-made cloud architecture and optimally manage the migration of applications and data. Thanks to this support, Volkswagen was able to accelerate the migration of its workloads to the AWS cloud, while improving the efficiency and transparency of its data management.
Issues
In an ever-changing and increasingly complex economic environment, the automotive industry needs to be highly responsive and agile to manage its operations and make fast, informed decisions. The emergence of new connected vehicles, requiring fewer repairs and relying on increasingly complex software, is forcing automakers to adapt their traditional business models. These changes require both technological and organizational transformation.
In this context, delivering an optimized customer experience and improving the supply chain become key priorities for maintaining profits while remaining competitive. The ability to deliver a personalized user experience and improve production and distribution processes is key to meeting customer expectations and profitability challenges.
Faced with these challenges, the company's new IT department aims to define and deploy a data strategy that meets today's challenges. This new strategy will enable the Group's various brands (Audi, Skoda, VW, Seat) to strengthen their capacity to analyze and exploit data in order to anticipate market trends and optimize operations.
Solutions
The company turned to Micropole for an in-depth assessment of its current situation, taking into account the three essential pillars of transformation: people, architecture and processes. This analysis identified the strengths and areas for improvement of the systems in place, while highlighting opportunities to boost efficiency and performance. After defining a target situation aligned with strategic objectives, Micropole drew up a comprehensive roadmap to support the company in its data transformation.
In order to demonstrate the value of the technical architecture envisaged, a pilot was rapidly deployed. This pilot tested the effectiveness of a cloud architecture combining an enterprise and a self-service component, all based on native and serverless AWS services. This approach offered great flexibility, enabling users to explore and manipulate data autonomously, creating their own objects and management rules, as in the case of specific marketing campaigns.
The architecture has enabled the creation of consolidated corporate indicators across brands, facilitating cross-analysis of data from different company entities, while guaranteeing a secure environment that complies with data governance requirements.
This approach has enabled us to combine user autonomy and data security, while meeting the need for rapid, informed decision-making through cross-functional, strategic analyses.
