Optimizing product data management: a structuring challenge won by Galeries Lafayette and Micropole

Levallois-Perret, January 5, 2024. Micropole, an international consulting group specializing in Data-Driven Business Transformation, has successfully carried out a consulting and integration mission for a combined MDM (Master Data Management) and PIM (Product Information Management) solution, for Galeries Lafayette, an emblematic player in the fashion and retail sector. This collaboration opened discussions on product data governance, with the aim of improving the supplier data referencing process (quality of data collected, streamlining exchanges with suppliers) on the one hand, and product enrichment processes on the other.

Micropole is delighted with this strategic assignment, which reinforces its position as a trusted partner for companies engaged in data-driven transformation projects.

"The first stage of our support enabled us to validate the positioning of the Product Data Repository at the heart of the IS within the Data strategy. The aim was to clarify the role of this solution in meeting the business challenges strongly linked to a lack of data quality".

"We carried out this project by mobilizing a dedicated team created for the occasion, who worked according to the SAFe agile method. The strong involvement of Galeries Lafayette's teams was a key factor in the project's success".

Align product data governance with business challenges

Committed to joyful commerce, Galeries Lafayette offers a catalog of almost 10 million products, including 3 million for e-Commerce. In this context, the challenges encountered include making data collection and product enrichment more reliable and optimized, as well as improving data quality to facilitate exchanges with suppliers (logistics, omnichannelity). To meet these challenges, Galeries Lafayette called on the expertise of Micropole, a data specialist with multidisciplinary resources, particularly in Master Data Management.

The mission began with an in-depth audit and a series of workshops conducted with various Galeries Lafayette operational teams to gain a better understanding of how the product is used, map its lifecycle and propose orientations in line with the company's challenges. The conclusions of this work paved the way for a product repository project with the deployment of STEP, Stibo Systems' PIM/MDM tool, in line with Galeries Lafayette's objectives and orientations.

Benefits and prospects

The implementation of this PIM/MDM at Galeries Lafayette will generate numerous benefits. In the short and medium term, it will improve the customer experience on the e-commerce site through the integration of new digital assets such as video and 3D, the management of logistics and CSR data, and the optimization of supplier data collection processes.

The collaboration with Galeries Lafayette is a concrete illustration of Micropole's expertise in product data governance.

"Micropole has become a trusted partner and we have decided to renew our partnership in 2024. The aim of this collaboration is to deepen our thinking around item referencing for commission agents on sale, enrich data with new attributes and leverage AI to optimize enrichment processes."
