Koala.ch is the leading online Swiss shoe retailer. Its website, published in French, German and English, offers a wide range of branded footwear for women, men and children. Delivery is free-of-charge and all products can be returned within 30 days.
How did the Koala.ch project come about?
Valentin Cogels : We met each other three years ago at eBay in Berne. Both of us were passionate about e-commerce and both of us had the same pair of shoes! We decided to create the Koala.ch site in summer 2010 after noticing that e-commerce in Switzerland had hardly taken off at all, especially for clothing and footwear. Today, we’re the only company offering this service and we fully intend to remain the leader in the online footwear market.
What made you choose Cross Agency, one of Micropole’s subsidiaries, to develop your platform?
Matthias Froehlicher : We went with Cross Agency for three reasons: their competitiveness, professionalism and their international network of talent. We immediately appreciated their grasp of all the technological and graphical aspects of the project. On the technical side, we had a lot of very stringent requirements, and they knew in advance just what we needed! We fed off each other from the very start of the project, which led to a very good working relationship. Consequently, we designed the website together as a team. It was a very friendly but also very professional experience, to such an extent that we would have liked to take them on full-time!
Which technology did you opt for? And why?
MF : Koala.ch is not only a Magento-based e-commerce site, but also a blog in WordPress. We hadn’t made any choices at the start, we just followed Cross Agency’s expert advice, which we appreciated enormously. The site is very stable and the interface works well. Three months later, we are very satisfied, as are our customers. Some of them are already regular shoppers on the site, which can only be seen as a vote of confidence in our success.
